Supporting Prostate Cancer: Chapter 1

I get on well with my friends. I particularly get on well with my male friends.

We play sport together. We watch rugby. We have trips away … mostly involving some sort of exercise; walking, cycling, skiing, and sometimes watching big sports events.

We play cards. We cook amazing food. We drink … mostly beer and decent wines.

We talk a lot. Well, when I say talk … we banter … we joke … or as we often say, we 'talk bollocks'.

“How’s Al’s wife?” I am asked on returning home.

“How was "Neil the Elder"’s girlfriend’s holiday?”

It’s not that I don’t care how she is, or whether the holiday was a good one, but the boys’ time together was simply full of other stuff.

We don’t stop talking … but, now I come to think of it, I’m often not sure what we do talk about. Apart from perhaps that great joke that Rich told! *

Sometimes though, I need to talk to you.

About the really important stuff.

Yes, it includes how Al’s wife is and the holiday … but I also need to talk to you about your health.

I’m just over 60 now (feel free at any point to say I don’t look it) and even at this age, I don’t like to think about my health too often.

I keep fit. I eat good food. I drink alcohol, but not to excess. I clean my teeth well. I assume that by doing sensible things my body will just keep working well. The way it has for most of my 61+ years.

Well … apart from that one blip.

That blip where I was lucky. Very Lucky.

I might even share that joke that Richard told us! ;-)
