This is the story of the text I didn’t send … and why I picked up a pen instead.
Our founder Neil, explains what he feels about writing in the digital world.
I was sitting on a train last weekend, hesitating over my phone. A family birthday was coming up, someone I hadn’t seen in months. I typed and erased several messages, trying to get the words right. In the end, I didn’t send a text.
Instead, when I arrived, I bought a card. It wasn’t the fastest option, and it probably wouldn’t arrive on time, but it felt right. It meant more.
Because what I really wanted was for this person to feel seen. To know I’d paused, thought about them, and chosen words that mattered. That’s the gap we fill at FROM YOU TO ME: bridging the digital rush with the weight of something personal, something handwritten.
I do love getting digital messages, don’t get me wrong. The excitement of that message on your phone wishing you a happy birthday is … well, it is … I can’t find the word. Can you help? How do you feel when your phone ‘pings’?
I am sure the sender remembered it was your birthday and not just because they were prompted by the Facebook calendar … but either way, it does feel … good?
But a handwritten note? That feels extraordinary. It says “I took my time. You matter. This moment matters”.
Think about the last time you received a handwritten note. Not that scribble left on your windscreen, but a message crafted just for you. It’s powerful, isn’t it? And yet it happens less in our fast-paced, digital world. Digital messages are quick. They’re convenient. But they’re not special.
How often do you find yourself scrolling through those keepsake messages on your phone or from last year’s social media messages? Probably not at all.

Our modern world where we are more connected than we have ever been and yet many feel more alone.
That’s why we create Gifts That Matter. Beautifully designed keepsakes that help people connect, reflect, and share stories across generations. The magic isn’t just in the book or journal itself, but in how it’s used:
- A grandmother sharing her childhood stories in a Memory Journal.
- A couple writing future letters to one another.
- A friend gifting an I Made a Book About You, filled with prompts and reflections that grow richer with time.
These moments are slow, intentional, human. And they last.
We’re excited to be launching even more keepsake gifts soon. Ones that invite your handwriting to make them complete. From birthdays to new arrivals, these gifts are designed to be kept close, not scrolled past.
Here’s what our community tells us about handwriting:
- It shows you cared enough to pause.
- It creates keepsakes you can hold, revisit, and pass down.
- It invites openness, people share more when they see handwriting.
- It feels like a gift, not just a message.
This isn’t nostalgia. It’s timeless. Handwriting carries something that digital can’t … the imperfections, the personality, the presence.
Can you picture your parents’ handwriting?
Let’s be clear; notebooks have their place, for ideas, journaling, planning, sketching. But what we do is different. We’re not utility. We’re not just function. We’re gift. And in a world where words disappear behind screens and scrolls, our keepsakes restore presence.
Now, we’d love to hear from you:
- When was the last time you received a handwritten note or gift? How did it make you feel?
- Do you think handwriting is being lost among younger ‘digital native’ generations, or is it making a comeback?
The stories we share. The connections we make. The gifts that matter.
That’s what stays with us.
And it all starts here, at FROM YOU TO ME, so make sure to check out some of our meaningful, heartfelt gifts that you can handwrite, to really show your loved ones just how much you care.
